But at least the home exchange clubs don't discriminate about who can list a home for rent. The same cannot be said of the largest vacation rental site, Vacation Rental By Owner.
"
VRBO is run by an evangelical Christian who hates gay people. He claimed he won't take gay-friendly listings because gays can't get married. Except now they can and he still discriminates. He is a bigot.
Don't go VRBO! Advocate, The, July 5, 2005 The huge Web site VRBO.com (Vacation Rentals by Owner) says it lists over 37,000 vacation rentals worldwide--but evidently no gay ones. The Out Traveler was informed in April that a listing for rentals at the gay-owned St. Philip Apartments in New Orleans had been removed because the wording "Gay/Lesbian Family Friendly" was used in the online description. In an e-mail, VRBO.com's owner, David Clouse, wrote, "I believe that it is wrong to be forced to promote an activity which is totally outside my belief system--in this case, sexual activity, hetero or homo, outside of the definition of a traditional marriage union." The gay online lodging directory PurpleRoofs.com refuses any VRBO.com-linked listings. We also suggest to stay away from VRBO.com"
What really annoys me about VRBO's bigoted owner is his disingenuous claim that he is only discriminating against "unmarried" people. He knows full well that gay Americans CANNOT legally marry in the USA. I am against VRBO because I am annoyed by hypocrisy. Boycott VRBO.
